Moving Forward With Reverse Mortgages
Harry's Thoughts On Moving Forward
' Moving forward requires several important decisions and decision demand facts. This website is all about facts. However, I must admit, it is laced with my opinion but those opinions are born out of facts, knowledge, and analysis. The correct facts and your intuitive skills, based on years of decision making, should lead you to a good decision. But you need facts and with those facts you need to follow your heart.
Here are the facts as I see them:
The Reverse Mortgage
For many senior homeowners, a reverse mortgage can be a life changer or even a life saver. I have seen it happen scores of times and I have many letters and notes to prove it. The real challenge is discovering whether or not a reverse mortgage is right for you. That’s easy to say, somewhat harder to achieve. To make the right choice, experienced, carefully-considered and knowledge-based advice from those you trust is often helpful. Your children, accountant, attorney, clergy, and other trusted advisors can often help you shape your thoughts.
However, let me warn you of an inherent foe of wise decision making. That foe is called denial. This is your life to live and my hope is that you see your life as something to enjoy and cherish. If you are not extracting every possible measure of joy and fulfillment and if money is the culprit, I urge you to re-evaluate your priorities. Life is not a dress rehearsal.
Please do not “pretend” to be doing “just fine” when the facts do not support that conclusion. If safely tapping into a portion of your home’s equity with a government-sponsored reverse mortgage would positively impact your life, you owe it to yourself to investigate.
In a recent AARP survey, 96% of seniors with a reverse mortgage stated that they were happy with their decision. They also said that they would recommend a reverse mortgage to others.
With Whom Will You Work?
This part of the decision is often not given the consideration that it deserves. The skill, experience, and dedication of the reverse mortgage specialist have a lot to do with the result and your satisfaction. This is my advice to you on how to select your specialist.
-
Look for at least three years of reverse mortgage experience.
-
Look for the CSA designation. If your selection is a Certified Senior Advisor, you have found someone who is dedicated to his or her profession and the seniors they serve.
-
Look for a company that offers multiple lender channels, not just a single source. Not all reverse mortgage lenders offer all HUD authorized programs. Work with those who can “shop”several lenders to get the best program for you.
-
Work only with those who are NRMLA members. Membership in the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association is a key measure of professionalism.
-
Work with those who willingly provide references.
While I meet or exceed each of these standards, others do as well. So, find a specialist who meets these standards and who is also someone you trust and someone you feel comfortable with as you share your life story.
Why iReverse Home Loans?
I joined forces with iReverse because they are unique. Just like me, all they do is reverse mortgages. Secondly, as a subsidiary of a federally chartered bank, they can serve the needs of seniors irrespective of where they live. However, despite their status as a bank subsidiary, iReverse functions as a broker representing nine reverse mortgage lenders. Therefore, we “shop” multiple lenders allowing us to locate the best program for you, which includes the lowest rate.'
To Recap
Moving forward successfully requires :
-
The right analysis
-
The right reverse mortgage professional
-
The best lender
